The US Department of Veterans Affairs is evaluating a proposal to lease land and five buildings at Fort Snelling to a private entity. The project intends to use historic preservation tax credits to rehabilitate the buildings and requires Section 106 compliance.
For this on-going project, we facilitated consultation with agency and community stakeholders, and Native American tribes as part of the Section 106 process. We are currently reviewing building plans to ensure Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties compliance and completing archaeological investigations.
Our public participation and consultation process moved this complex adaptive reuse project forward and was lauded by the SHPO: “The outreach work you described and documented is exemplary.”
