Artful interpretation enhances the power of a place

Interpretation on site with children

The 106 Group offers a distinctive approach to interpretation. We begin our interpretive planning process with a careful analysis of the unique historical, natural, and cultural resources of a place. We blend this place-specific knowledge with research into the people who use the site and consultation with the stakeholders who have an interest in the site. These two elements—place and people—inform the development of themes, or key messages, which help visitors understand the lasting legacy and importance of a place.

After we have developed a thematic framework, we make specific and strategic recommendations for implementation. These recommendations focus on a systematic approach to improving interpretation over the short- and long-term and are driven by the development of principles, goals, and measurable objectives. The result is compelling interpretation that speaks to people of yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
