Anne Ketz, RPA
CEO & Technical Director

Anne Ketz's career in cultural resources management and planning extends over 25 years and three continents, including projects in the United States, Great Britain, India, the Middle East, and Canada. Anne's sensitivity to others and her sense of diplomacy has brought successful conclusion to complex and potentially controversial projects. She has worked closely with a broad range of stakeholders, including community activists, planners, and American Indian leaders to ensure respect for each community's heritage within the planning process. Anne is a recognized expert in guiding clients through the maze of preservation legislation at federal, state, and local levels. Throughout Anne's career, she has demonstrated a unique commitment to the community through public speaking, publications of popular materials on historic and archaeological resources, media interviews, teaching school programs, volunteer and intern training, tutoring in archaeology, and the design and installation of museum displays. Anne meets the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualifications Standards for work in history, architectural history, and archaeology.
David Ketz
CFO & General Manager

David Ketz is the co-founder and co-owner of the 106 Group and serves as general manager. He has over thirty years of experience as a small business owner. His breadth and depth of experience in business, information management, and economic development brings a unique perspective to community development and problem solving. Through his involvement in various national boards and initiatives, combined with extensive travel, David has developed a keen awareness of the potential for cultural tourism opportunities and how they can enhance a community's economic well being. David has played a key role in numerous cultural studies by designing and developing databases and associated information systems to document, quantify, and present a wide range of cultural and anthropological data. Some of his projects include the Great River Road development study, the Shakopee Mdewakanton Dakota Community tribal resources database, and most recently the Cedar Rapids architecturel history update. He also designed and implemented a data-mining program with the Minnesota State Historic Preservation Office. David was one of the founding members of the American Cultural Resources Association and served on the board of directors for five years. David's expertise in finance and small business development led to his appointment as vice president of the Minnesota Working Capital Fund for women-owned and minority business. He served for five years on the Twin Cities Steering Committee of the American Heritage Rivers Initiative. He also helped establish and has served as chairperson of an architectural review board in the Apostle Islands National Lake Shore.
Tim Agness, FASLA
Landscape Architect & Planner

A landscape architect and planner, Tim has 33 years of experience planning and designing public facilities and places. His expertise lies in facilitating community and stakeholder involvement in developing shared and significant landscapes. In his work, Tim has demonstrated leadership and commitment to producing highly valued public places through a multidisciplinary design team approach and the authentic integration of community involvement. In many of our projects, Tim acts as the 106 Group's master facilitator bridging stakeholder input, interpretation, design, and implementation. Tim is a licensed landscape architect in Minnesota and Wisconsin and a fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects (FASLA).
Prior to joining the 106 Group, Tim served St. Paul Parks and Recreation for 30 years. He led the team that focused on the planning and design of Saint Paul's Mississippi River park system as well as other parkways, trails, and the downtown public realm. He has led the design teams that have undertaken development and redevelopment projects such as Hidden Falls Regional Park, Indian Mounds Park, Upper Landing Park, Mississippi River Boulevard Parkway, and Lexington Parkway, to name a few. Tim was a significant contributor to the Saint Paul on the Mississippi Development framework ultimately leading to his role as director of the Design Center providing leadership in urban planning and design. The Design Center was instrumental in several public and private initiatives ranging from the development of the “Northeast Quadrant Urban Village Precinct Plan" to the planning and design of Landmark Plaza.
Jenny Bring
Senior Cultural Resources Planner

Jennifer Bring is a senior cultural resources planner and project manager with unique managerial expertise and experience in cultural resources management (CRM) and compliance. She possesses both administrative and field experience in historic preservation, architectural history, and archaeological investigations in Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Illinois, and Montana. With her multidisciplinary background in the fields of anthropology, archaeology, architectural history, and business management, Jennifer's detailed understanding of the CRM process and Section 106 informs her demonstrated ability to effectively guide a project's course from start to completion. Jennifer has managed a wide range of projects, from single telecommunication towers to interstate pipelines, particularly supporting projects that involve complex NEPA and Section 106 processes, as well as state-level compliance issues. Recent projects include the Alberta Clipper Pipeline project in North Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin; the Duluth Air National Guard Base in Minnesota; the Lake Elmo Village Minnesota Alternative Urban Areawide Review (AUAR); and a Third Party joint federal and state Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Keetac Taconite Mine Expansion project in northern Minnesota. Clients have praised Jennifer for her organizational skills, compliance knowledge, sharp focus, and ability to smoothly navigate complex challenges.
Julie Cutler, CIP, CIT
Senior Interpretive Planner

Julie's areas of expertise include interpretive planning, communications, and education. She is a professional writer and graphic designer and has taught in many settings including in East Africa. Her multidisciplinary background and international experience means she approaches interpretation from multiple points of view to create meaningful plans and exhibits that integrate art, science, history, and culture with solid education theory. In her role at the 106 Group, she regularly develops interpretive plans that demonstrate her ability to artistically translate complex historical, cultural, and natural landscapes into evocative interpretive experiences. Most important, Julie's work reveals her commitment to helping clients achieve meaningful connections with people and powerful links to places through interpretation. Julie holds a master's degree in English with a focus on effective communications development. She is a certified interpretive planner (CIP) through the National Association for Interpretation and is a certified teacher in the State of Minnesota.
Mark Doperalski
Senior Archaeologist

Mark has participated in numerous projects throughout the Midwest and eastern Great Plains. Projects have consisted of archaeological survey, evaluation, and mitigation associated with a variety of projects, from cell towers and small-scale developments to large-scale pipelines and power plants. Mark has dealt with archaeological resources ranging from prehistoric bison kill sites to French contact-period trading posts and 19th-century mills and settlements. His level of experience in the field has ranged from archaeological field technician to field director and project coordinator. Mark also has experience interpreting and presenting the histories of archaeological sites in the form of interpretive talks and guided tours. In addition to field experience, Mark has conducted in-depth historical research, has extensive laboratory experience, and has written numerous technical reports. Most recently, Mark was responsible for coordinating and directing 24 archaeologists in the multi-year survey of a 325-mile pipeline running across three states from the international border in North Dakota to Superior, Wisconsin, writing multiple associated technical reports, as well as directing the processing and curation of several thousand artifacts associated with the project.
Chris Evans
Interactive & Graphic Designer

Chris has worked on numerous projects that integrate his skills in interactive media design, graphic design, video, database development, and archaeology. In all of his work, Chris places the greatest emphasis on making the disciplines of anthropology, history, and archaeology accessible and engaging to a broad audience through innovative and interactive means. His expertise in the field of design includes technical mastery of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, Flash, Dreamweaver, Director, Apple Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, Microsoft Access, along with ActionScript, (X)HTML, CSS, PHP, VBA, and SQL languages. In addition to his experience with designing and launching multimedia projects, Chris also has a strong background in developing sophisticated databases for cultural resource inventories and management. Much of the work Chris does at the 106 Group is aimed at translating interpretive themes and stories of place into high-quality exhibits and interpretive displays.
Jennifer Kust

Jennifer serves as the business administrator for the 106 Group. She brings strong business and financial experience to the company, supervising all financial, human resources, and internal business operations. Jennifer has strong skills in financial analysis and has assisted in the development and authorship of economic analysis and impact models for cultural tourism programs.
Jill Livingston
Cultural Resources Planner

Jill Livingston is a cultural resources planner with a broad range of experience encompassing cultural anthropology, interpretive planning, cultural resource management, law, preservation planning, art, and archaeology. Prior to joining the 106 Group, Jill held professional and research positions in Switzerland, Japan, and England, as well as the United States. With the 106 Group, Jill has coordinated numerous projects that represent an intersection of the company's broad service offerings. Jill has worked with the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma, the Seminole Tribe of Florida, the National Park Service, the Texas Historical Commission, as well as numerous architecture and engineering firms to complete cultural tourism strategic plans, interpretive plans, mitigation plans, cultural resources literature reviews, and third-party joint federal and state Environmental Impact Statements (EIS). In all of her projects, Jill applies strong critical thinking skills and the ability to understand the big picture while maintaining attention to detail. Research into the legal status of indigenous peoples as well as cultural resources survey experience further informs her work in cultural resources planning. Jill holds a master's degree in law and anthropology.
Jeanne-Marie Mark

Jeanne-Marie has been involved in historic preservation and architectural history projects in Minnesota, Illinois, Iowa, Georgia, Virginia and South Carolina. Her work has included Phase I survey projects, historical research, evaluations of eligibility, and analysis of effects, as well as Minnesota Historic Properties Records documentation. In addition, Jeanne-Marie served on the historic structures report team for the Charles A. Lindbergh House, a National Historic Landmark in Little Falls, Minnesota, and for Redcliffe Plantation in Beech Island, South Carolina. Jeanne-Marie holds a master's degree in historic preservation from the University of Georgia, where her interest in preservation technology led her to participate in the Preservation Field School at Stratford Hall. Jeanne-Marie meets the U.S. Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualifications Standards for architectural history and history.
Greg Mathis
Senior Preservation Planner
& Architectural Historian

Greg has worked for more than a decade in the fields of historic preservation and urban planning and has experience in local, state, and federal regulatory processes. He specializes in the heritage preservation commission's design-review process by providing assistance to applicants and consulting with commissions. He has worked in both large and small urban environments throughout the Midwest. Greg has evaluated hundreds of buildings, structures, and districts for both local designation and for listing on the National Register of Historic Places and has written and edited numerous nominations. He oversaw a revision of the City of Minneapolis's heritage preservation ordinance and made substantial contributions to the historic preservation chapter of the Minnesota state building code. Greg has served on planning teams that developed and implemented plans for a number of communities. He has assisted heritage preservation commissions with design guidelines and community outreach activities including heritage tourism efforts. His extensive work experience with preservation commissions, combined with an extensive knowledge of building materials and architectural design, allows him to find solutions that meet the needs of both public and private entities. He also provides guidance for developers in using the federal historic preservation tax incentives. Greg holds a master's degree in community and regional planning with concentrations in historic preservation and the built environment from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. He meets the U.S. Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualifications Standards and is a qualified consultant of the Minnesota Department of Transportation in the areas of architectural history and history.
Nathan Moe
GIS Specialist & Planner

Nathan is a geographic information systems (GIS) specialist who has experience working in a diverse range of fields such as environmental conservation, housing and community development, and urban planning. He has experience with ARC/INFO®, ArcView GIS applications, AutoCAD, Google Earth Pro, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop. Prior to joining the 106 Group, he worked on projects such as the Vermillion River Watershed Joint Powers Organization plan through the Dakota County Office of Planning. Nathan has gained experience in analyzing development constraints while working on the Desert Lakes, Adelanto, and Gateway Specific plans in California. He has also worked with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to develop the Inland Sensitivity Atlas for oil spill responders in St. Paul.
Matt Schillerberg
IT & GIS Manager

Matt Schillerberg has been working as an information technology professional for the past thirteen years. He has extensive experience with workstations and servers, troubleshooting, repairing, and programming networked computers in business environments. In addition, Matt has many years of experience in both designing and developing database applications and working with GIS/GPS applications for a wide range of projects. Matt also has experience with web development and is skilled in using the latest Adobe web development software such as Dreamweaver and Flash. Matt also worked on an archaeological data recovery project with the University of Wisconsin–River Falls and has conducted a range of archaeological Phase I and II studies at the 106 Group. Matt offers a unique combination of expertise in IT and GIS technologies and experience in the fields of archaeology, history, and cultural resources management.
Dalton Van Buren

Dalton has over seven years experience in the information technology field. He specializes in database modeling, design, development, implementation, and administration and data migration. He also has experience with programming and application development. Dalton works with fellow staff members to streamline and enhance the company information systems.
Saleh Van Erem
Architectural Historian

Saleh has been involved in architectural history and historic preservation projects in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Virginia, Maryland, and Washington D.C. Her work has included Phase I and II architectural survey projects, historical research, evaluations of eligibility, and assisting clients in complying with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. In addition, Saleh has prepared individual and multiple property National Register of Historic Places nominations. Saleh holds a master's degree in historic preservation from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a bachelor's degree in art history from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Her skills and abilities have allowed her to successfully complete a wide array of architectural history and historic preservation projects throughout the country. Saleh meets the U.S. Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualifications Standards for history and architectural history.
Miranda Van Vleet

Miranda has been involved in the historic preservation movement and architectural history projects in Minnesota and Georgia. Her work has included Phase I survey projects, historical research, and evaluations of eligibility, as well as preparation of Historic Structure Reports and National Register nominations. In addition, Miranda has prepared numerous documents to assist clients and organizations in complying with Section 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act. Miranda holds a master's degree in historic preservation from the University of Georgia, where her interest in history led her to complete a study to evaluate the historical and architectural significance of Minnesota fairs statewide. Miranda also holds a bachelor's degree in architecture from the University of Minnesota. It is this rare blend of training in historic preservation and architecture that gave her the skills and abilities to successfully complete a wide array of architectural history and historic preservation projects. Miranda meets the U.S. Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualifications Standards for architectural history and history.
Sarah Wilkening

Sarah is the 106 Group's office administrator. She plays an integral role in managing many project logistics, such as booking hotel reservations and car rentals for large field crews. In addition, Sarah works in the area of business administration by assisting with monthly billing and bookkeeping. Her work keeps the 106 Group's projects and its office running smoothly and efficiently.
